So, I'm An Award-Winning Writer Now...
At some point I need to sit down and write out all my wonderful highlights from this year’s Type-A Conference, but I have responsibilities and shit, so I’m going to focus very quickly on the absolute number one highlight. A few weeks ago, I mentioned on Facebook that I won a We Still Blog Award for the Personal Essay category. Winning in that category made me a finalist for the overall award and I found out at the conference last Friday that I was the overall winner for Type A Parent’s We Still Blog awards. So, umm I’m officially an award-winning writer, which is pretty cool, right?
Here’s a video of me reading, I Used To Be A Respectable Negro, But Then I Woke Up, at the award ceremony. I was so nervous after I finished that someone had to force me to look up and see that the crowd was standing up and clapping (and crying).
I didn’t think I’d win, so I was completely flustered when they asked me to say something to accept the award and I also forgot to take pictures with my trophy on my camera because I was trying to make sure I didn’t miss Sesame’s last soccer game for the fall season. I’ll update this post with pictures once I find them floating around, but here are the trophies they gave us, which are both beautiful and now sit in my home office.
They’re a constant reminder that I can do this writing thing and that there are people out there who want to read what I have to say. I mean why shouldn’t they… I am an award-winning writer after all.
What’s new with all of you?
