My lived experience as a mom and academic (mamademic) provide me with the unique ability to give talks and lead seminars in the areas of social justice at the intersections of parenting and teaching. While I am open to keynote speaker options, I prefer to facilitate seminars that can take place over a 4-8 hour time span, however, they can be tailored to your group’s needs. Seminars provide me with the opportunity to offer hands-on activities for the participants and help us all learn from one another.
I currently offer four seminar topics:
How To Raise An Advocate: This interactive seminar is a mini version of my popular online course, RaA 101: Exposing the Three Ps – Privilege, Prejudice, and Pride. Participants will be led on a journey of discovery where we will tackle what it really means to have privilege and why prejudice and racism are in fact not synonymous.
Why Intersectional Feminism Matters: This seminar is a mini version of my online course Intersectional Feminism 101. We will cover what exactly intersectionality means and why we all need to integrate it into our lives through discussions and activities focusing on race, sexuality, and social class.
Social Justice Advocacy in the Writing Classroom: Long before I became a mother, I taught freshman composition courses at a local university. It was in those classrooms where I first realized I could enact change. This seminar provides you with my tried and true techniques on using writing to promote social justice advocacy.
