I Took A Break…

Hi Everyone,

I know it’s been a while since I’ve written anything new and I’m sure people are wondering what’s going on, so I’m going to quickly explain my absence.

First and foremost, I’ve been dealing with some health issues that made it difficult for me to concentrate on writing and I was using all my energy for the new job I accepted with Mothering Justice at the start of the year. Apparently, I have severe vitamin D deficiency, which was exacerbating my anxiety and causing my body to be in sooo much pain. I’m currently on the mend thanks to a huge dose of Vitamin D supplement each week, plus physical therapy to strengthen my core and help my lower back pain. Oh the joys of postpartum life!

Second, I realized that this site is becoming “ONE” thing and I know that people love for us to niche down but writing about social justice and parenting is emotionally draining. I seriously find myself not being able to create anything new for weeks because I’ve used so much of my energy writing a post and then managing the comments/emails. This was certainly challenging when I was experiencing health issues but it also makes it hard for me to focus on something I really want to complete… my book proposal. I need to get the book inside me out into the world, plus I know that a book deal will be a huge step into bringing about financial security for my family.

Third, spring is always a busy time for parents because schools have ALL the things happening. Plus, my husband is a teacher as well, which makes life incredibly chaotic right now. Oh, and did I mention we’ve been in the process of looking for a new home to rent. It’s been A LOT lately. We will be finishing up the school semester, packing, and settling into a new home in the next few weeks. I’m exhausted and broke just thinking about it.

Finally, I have projects that I started in 2018 that I still haven’t had the emotional bandwidth to finish and I need to get those done this summer.

What does this all mean for Mamademics? It just means that I need to take a step back from producing the harder content that yall have grown accustomed to and get back to focusing on some of the other aspects of my life. That being said, this summer I will focus on creating more content around my daily life with my family beyond activism. I’ll also start sharing more of my art journey, which I’ve pretty much relegated to my Instagram page.

I know that the changes will disappoint some people but at the start of the year, I said I wanted to focus on being my whole self, which means showing that here as well.

In terms of kid updates, both Sesame and Blueberry are doing great. Sesame is finishing first grade and has grown sooo much academically. He turned 7 in March and will probably be taller than me in another year or two. Blueberry turns 2 at the end of July but sometimes we forget he’s that young. He’s seriously soaring through his milestones. Sesame calls him Boss Baby Dimples because he definitely tries to run the house but he also has the cutest dimples when he smiles.

As always, you can support me by sharing my old work, purchasing my work, or just sending in a monetary donation to my Paypal account.

Alright, I need to stop Blueberry from making another big mess. I promise not to take so long to post this time.
