Last week I decided to take a break from introducing Baby S to new foods, because I was afraid they were making him constipated. Apparently, he’s just one of those breastfed babies who only has bowel movements once a week, and of course they are massive.
Now that I know he’s fine I’m ready to introduce a new food. So far we’ve tried oatmeal, avocado, and carrots. Out of all 3 I believe avocado is his favorite, because it’s the one food he eats more than 2 spoonfuls of and he makes a little smacking noise lol.
Since I prepare his food myself, I decide on Sunday what the new food(s) will be and prep them for the week. He still has frozen carrots left, so we’ll only do one new food this week. I decided to introduce a fruit, so I can eventually add it to his oatmeal in the morning.
I figured I should try a fruit that we consume a lot…apples! I love apples as insisted on honey crisp apples when I was pregnant. Mr. S fussed at me all the time, because of course they were the most expensive apples in the store lol. Anyway, I looked in the fridge to see what kind we had and if they were sweet enough naturally. We have Fiji this week and they are pretty good.
So, I peeled and cored one apple. Then I placed the chunks in our Baby Bullet Turbo Steamer set it two and waited 10 minutes. They were soft and ready for the Baby Bullet blender…2 minutes later and it’s done. Since he only eats a spoon or two that one apple was enough for 5 servings. I refrigerated 3 and froze 2. You can make more servings, but I do not add water since I like to leave some texture to his food.
Next time I think I will just freeze the chunks, so we can use them for teething.
I’m looking forward to seeing his reaction at lunch time tomorrow. Hopefully he’s a fan of apples like his mommy.
