A Boy And His Astronaut Boots: Keen® Encanto Boots Review

Thank you Keen® Kids Footwear for sending us a pair of shoes to facilitate this review. All thoughts are my own.

It feels like every time I turn around Sesame has a new interest. Over the last six months or so, he’s become really interested in astronomy and outer space. It started with curiosity about the moon and its phases, and before I knew it we were watching The Magic School Bus and talking about outer space. After sharing a few stories about his newfound interest in the moon, one of my friends suggested we get him a telescope for his birthday. We kind of brushed it off, but when his grandmother asked if she could buy him one for his 4th birthday, we said sure.

Around the same time, Keen ® Kids Footwear reached out to me about their new Encanto Collection and Boundless Wonder campaign, they offered to send Sesame a pair of shoes from their line for us to try out. Since he’s reaching the point where he likes to pick out his own accessories, I let him choose his shoes with help from Mr. S. They weren’t a fan of some of the other shoe styles, but right away they chose the Encanto Waterproof Boots.

When they arrived, Sesame took one look at them and told me these were his astronaut boots. I told him he could wear them when it rained, but the first clear night he was able to use his telescope he insisted on wearing them to see the moon.

I’m so glad I let him because the picture that came as a result was completely worth it. A few days later, I put those boots to the test when he went on a school field trip.

There’s a stream that the kids like to go in and last time he fell in and his poor feet were soaked. Plus, as a rookie parent on the field trip, I didn’t know to bring him another pair of shoes just in case. This time I used the draw string on his boots to make sure his feet were snug and guess who was the only kid able to wear the same shoes home that they wore to the site? Yup, mine. He didn’t fall in the stream this time, but that draw string kept any water from getting inside while he stomped in the stream.

When we were invited to the Bugs Bunny Boomtown opening at Six Flags Over Georgia, he once again put those boots on, but this time because it was actually raining. He stayed dry the entire time and I didn’t have to worry about him possibly getting sick. He was just able to enjoy the fun.

We loved them so much that when our Instagram photo won the #BoundlessWonder contest, we opted for another pair of the Encanto boots in a different color (and one size up for the fall). Thank you Keen® Kids for reminding us to let our children explore this world. Want to know more about the Boundless Wonder campaign? Check out this video.
