As of today, my due date is 26 days away EEEK!!! Time is going by so quickly and we still have so many things to finish.
1. Packing the hospital bag
One of my friends, who is due 4 days before me, has been driving me crazy about packing my hospital bag, and making me think about what would happen if I go into labor early and Mr. S has to pack for me instead. The latter didn’t really scare me when it comes to packing for me, since he knows where my clothes are and wouldn’t bring me anything crazy; but he might bring the wrong things for the baby. In addition, my doctor asked me at my 36 week checkup if I had packed my bag yet, which of course I had not done yet; and if you read yesterday’s post then you already know how Mr. S feels about me procrastinating. I’m proud to say that I have finally started packing my bag, and once we go to Target tonight I’ll be all finished. Stay tuned for a post about what’s in my bag…
2. Getting the baby’s room together
When we moved into this house, the baby’s room sort of became a storage room for Mr. S old apartment, so we’ve slowly been moving his things out of the room and making room for him in our bedroom. I had to give up a lot of closet space, and I still have to figure out where we’re going to put all my shoes and things. We finally got the baby’s crib, so next weekend we’ll (and by we I mean Mr.S) put it together, so it starts to look like his room.
3. Washing and organizing clothes/bedding
Finally, something I’ve actually finished. I’m happy to say that I have washed and organized all of Baby S’s bedding and clothing from 0-6 months. This was not an easy feat at all, because he has sooo many clothes already and most of it we didn’t even purchase. My younger sister, the one from a previous blog, gave me a ton of clothes that my nephew has out grown, and most of it he only wore once or not at all because babies grow so quickly. We also got some clothing from one of my husband’s friends who has a son around the same age as my nephew. Plus, all the new things that people bought him at the baby shower and the things that we picked up ourselves. I spent this week washing, folding, and organizing all his clothing. This also helped me w/ #1 because I picked out his going home outfit and a few onesies for him to wear while we’re being held hostage.
4. Create a Birth Plan/Complete our Birthing Class
This was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be I downloaded a sample from Baby Center and just checked the ones that apply to me. I’m going to go over it w/ Mr. S on Sunday, so we’re on the same page, and he can be my voice if the doctors are asking me to make decisions while I’m in a lot of pain and not thinking clearly. I purchased a DVD for us to do this in the privacy of our own home, and we’re going to do it this Sunday. Most Sundays are baby preparation days if you haven’t been able to tell.
5. Get My Hair Done
I know that this is a really weird addition, but I’m Black girl with natural hair, and there is a lot of sweating that happens during delivery. I decided about a month ago that I would get twist extensions to not only protect my hair, but to give me a couple months to adjust to having a newborn and still maintain my appearance. I know, I know this is super vain, but there will be lots of cameras and the last thing I want to do is look back on the days after my son was born and see myself looking a HOT mess. Plus, I’m a newlywed and I’m sure my husband will appreciate the appearance upkeep as well.
Those are the top five things on my to-do list at the moment. If you’ve already had children, what did you do to prepare for the big day? If you’re currently pregnant, what are you doing to prepare for the big day?
