2016 Academic Goals
Happy New Year!!! Winter break is winding down and it’s been pretty relaxing. I’ve slept a ridiculous amount, which also means that I’m behind with my writing. I planned this break to be all about catching up on rest, but that also meant I needed to get my work done beforehand. Sesame was sick, so that didn’t happen, but I also could not bring myself to write at all during the time off. I’m sure my dissertation chair will be chastising me soon as well.
Anyway, it’s a new year and an opportunity to achieve some new goals. Notice I said goals and not resolutions. I said that because resolutions are more likely to be broken and I try to make life changes throughout the year anyway.
I wrote out ten major goals for the year, but only two of them are academic. Â I’ll likely share the rest in a future post, but I want to focus on the academic goals today because it’s Mamademic Monday after all.
- Have something published in an academic journal.
- Complete an entire draft of my dissertation.
So, how am I going to achieve these academic goals? Quite simply, I’m going to write. Over the next week, I’ll focus on establishing a writing schedule that breaks down the amount of time I spend on my academic writing and my blog writing. I will stick to that schedule with flexibility in the actual writing times in case Sesame is sick. I’m also going to start using an app called SelfControl, so that I’m staying focused during my writing time and not browsing the web.
Do you have any academic goals this year? Feel free to share them in the comments.
