I think my least favorite part of parenting is seeing my child in pain. So, teething is always difficult and it seems like it never ends. Every time I think we’re getting to a good place all of a sudden here comes another tooth. This means lots of crying, sleepless nights, and congestion for Sesame. Oh and during the day clinginess. He doesn’t typically run a fever, so we try to limit the amount of medicine we’re giving him because we know it just masks the issues. Plus, we’re more of a “natural” remedy family.
A few months ago, I received an email from Amber for Babies asking if I would be interested in doing a product review on one of their amber teething necklaces. At the time, Sesame’s molars had just started to make their appearance and I was exhausted. Amber teething necklaces were on my radar, but I wasn’t sure it was something I was ready to invest in, so I kept holding off. This was my chance to try yet another natural remedy and let my readers know what I thought, so I jumped on the offer.
We received the Honey Raw Beads necklace, which came nicely packaged with some basic information on the product.
If you’ve never heard of amber teething necklaces, you’re probably wondering why amber and what does it do? Simply put, amber is believed to have healing properties that work simply through your body temperature. It is believed that amber is a centuries old teething remedy used in Europe.
I put it on him right away and tried to make sure he kept it under his shirt, since it works best when placed on the skin. Of course, he was interested in this new accessory and kept pulling it out, so I made sure to remind him that it goes in your shirt. After a few days of wearing the necklace, we noticed he started sleeping better at night without waking up a lot, but the real change came when after a couple weeks I started forgetting to put it on after bath time. He started teething again and was waking up, but I wasn’t thinking about the necklace. One morning Mr. S was getting him dressed and saw the necklace on the dresser and said “Maybe we should start putting this on again. It seemed like it worked last time.” So, he’s been wearing it again and he will even say “necklace on” now when he sees it sitting on the bathroom counter after a bath.
It also makes for a pretty cute accessory. I’ve had so many people ask me about his necklace when they see it in pictures and comment on how cute it is.
The only downside for me is that we didn’t start sooner, so it’s something he’s very curious about and I have to stop him from trying to chew on it or just taking it out of his shirt.
Of course I can’t say that I’m 100% sure that this product works for teething, but we’ve had no side effects from it and I recommend it. Check out Amber For Babies on Facebook for more information.
