Can yall believe that Sesame turns 3 today? I’m still in a bit of shock, but here’s his letter. You can check out the other ones here: Year One and Year Two
Dear Sesame,
Today you turn three and I am still in amazement that I helped to create another human being. Three years ago when we met for the first time I felt like I was in a dream. No, seriously! I even said it on my Facebook page.
The last three years have certainly been full of ups and downs, more ups of course, but we stuck it out. We battled the trials of breastfeeding and then became pros. We battled teething and separation anxiety (still going through that one), but teething tablets work miracles and grown ups come back, remember. We survived mommy’s comprehensive exams thanks to all your snuggles and willingness to let mommy nap when daddy got off work. We battled fevers, night terrors, and unexplained reactions to medicine, but baths and extra snuggles helped. We’re currently battling your fear of being alone in the dark and mommy’s dissertation, but we’ll conquer them because that’s what we do.
As I reflect on the last three years, I’m amazed at how much you’ve grown and changed in the last year alone. Your baby fat cheeks have been replaced with the slim bone structure of a little boy. Your legs are so long now and we’re not even going to talk about how fast your feet keep growing. While you’ve always been vocal about what you like and don’t like, your ever-growing vocabulary helps you clearly state wishes (sometimes demands). You tell us what you want for breakfast–current favorites: oatmeal, waffles, pancakes, and yogurt with granola. You make us watch your favorite shows–Daniel Tiger, Care Bears, and Dinosaur Train. You force Daddy to play the xBox (or so he says) and you pretend you’re driving too. You try to crochet with me and tell me what colors you like more. You pick your own bedtime stories and even “read” along with me. You have pretty awesome musical taste for a three year old. Seriously, you love Kanye West, Pharrell, Daft Punk, and all the old school R&B stations on Pandora.
This year will bring new experiences and challenges. First up soccer and then preschool! Â No matter what happens this year I know that you will teach me so much more and I will love you more every single day.
Thank you for being you! Thank you for inspiring me to fight to make this world a better place!
I love you always and forever,
Mommy (Your best “frewn”)
