Mamademics Mondays | Introduction and What I'm Reading
Hey Everyone,
I know that I’ve been MIA around these parts, but I promise it was for a very good reason. Sesame started preschool on August 31st and I’ve been adjusting to the new responsibilities that come with not only having a preschooler, but also having one who attends a cooperative preschools. In addition to getting him dressed and out the house on time with a nutrition lunch, I also have lots of parent responsibilities. Plus, I’m still teaching both in-person and online, oh and running my Etsy shop. To say that I’ve had an adjustment period is an understatement. Anyway, we’re a month in and I think I finally have figured out a rhythm, which I’ll share more about next week.

Alright, so I’m sure you’re all like what’s this Mamademic Monday thing? It’s actually an idea from one of my blogger friends, Ashley of Mommy Week. I’ve been struggling with being consistent in my posting and we discussed how I can try to post at least 2-3 times a week despite the madness that is my life at the moment. One of her suggestions was a weekly series that’s no real pressure like Mamademic Monday. I spent last Friday brainstorming and planning out a tentative editorial calendar for the rest of the year and Mamademic Mondays kept playing in my head, so here we are.
What can you expect? Mamademic Monday will typically feature short posts or vlogs discussing my dissertation triumphs (and struggles) because yall know I like to keep it real. I’ll share what I’m reading on the academic front, as well as funny teaching stories. I’ll even share my tips and tricks for getting it all done in the most efficient manner possible.
So, what’s on the agenda for this week? I submitted what I think is a pretty thorough prospectus to my dissertation chair for review a couple weeks ago, so I should receive feedback any day now. In the meantime, I’m planning to spend this week really breaking down what I want to include in each chapter because that portion of my prospectus was very brief. I’m also doing a little more reading about Black feminism, so that I’m including more variety in the scholars that I’m discussing. I’m currently reading Bad Feminist by Roxanne Gay and reviewing Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde. I believe they will both round out my discussion of more commonly discussed Black feminist scholars like Patricia Hill Collins and bell hooks. What are you reading this week?
Let me know what you think about Mamademic Monday in the comments. Oh, and if you want to read about something specific leave it there too.
