What are you studying? I’m working on my PhD in Rhetoric and Composition. My specific research interests include My current research interests are composition pedagogy, Black feminist rhetoric, African American rhetoric, and writing center pedagogy. My future goal is to serve as a consultant in the development of better writing programs at urban universities for under-represented minorities.

Do you like it? I like studying and learning, but the graduate student process is a bit daunting and overwhelming.

Where are you in your studies? I’m in my 3rd year of a PhD program in Rhetoric and Composition. I finished my PhD coursework this past fall, and I am now beginning the process of preparing for comprehensive exams. I also need to finally decide on a dissertation topic… eeek.

Has it been harder because of Baby S? Yes, I had every intention of taking one of my comprehensive exams this semester, but my due date falls too close to the exam time, and I was so overwhelmed last semester that I didn’t come up with an exam list.

How does Baby S’ arrival effect that? Aside from me postponing exams for a semester, which people do all the time just because by the time you get to the exam stage you need a break, he hasn’t really changed the plan that much. I imagine I will have lots of blogs about attempting to study and take notes with an infant/toddler, but I also imagine that my loss of sleep as a new mommy will prepare me for the late night studying I’ll have to do for the exam anyway.
